Clarence C. Boyle, Sr.
Hall Of Fame Inductee
MADAF is proud to recognize Clarence C. Boyle, Sr. (1927-2012) as our sixth inductee into the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association Foundation Hall of Fame. Born in Level, Maryland Clarence attended Churchville Elementary School, and graduated from Bel Air High School, where he loved and played baseball, earning him the “Best Athlete” designation and was offered a spot with the Brooklyn Dodgers. But as many in his generation, Clarence chose to serve his country.
While in high school Clarence met Irene Kahoe. They married on October 9, 1948 and in 1951 welcomed their first child, Chuck into their lives followed by Linda, Mike, Mary Sue, Chris and Brooke. What followed were 23 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
After the service, Clarence went to work for Kroh’s Cleaners where he took on the opportunity to develop a pick-up and delivery service. He worked long hours 6 days a week as he developed routes and making over 200 stops per day. One of those stops being Joe Lee. Joe was a Buick dealer in Perryman. Recognizing Clarence’s talent Joe offered Clarence a job selling Buicks. Clarence loved his customers and they loved him back. Lee Buick thrived under Clarence’s leadership and salesmanship. In 1968 Clarence had the opportunity of a lifetime, and on a handshake borrowed the money for a down payment on what became Boyle Buick.
Clarence served his country and served as president of the Association of the US Army, he served his community and was past president of the Rotary Club and the Maryland Golf & Country Club. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club. He served his industry receiving many awards from Buick. He was Best in Class Buick Dealer for 11 years. Clarence also received the Small Business Administration Achievement Award, 1st Harford Award and the Harford County Living Treasure Award.
He was an unforgettable gentleman who cherished his friends, the industry, his community and most of all his family. It is with a great sense of honor that we add him to our Hall of Fame.
