Vincent A. Sheehy III
Hall Of Fame Inductee
MADAF is proud to recognize Vincent A. Sheehy III (1928-2017) as our seventh inductee into the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association Foundation Hall of Fame. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in Hyattsville, Maryland, Vince attended and was a third generation graduate of Gonzaga College High School and went on to graduate from Catholic University, Phi Beta Kappa, B.A. Philosophy, Class of 1951 Later, 2004, he earned an honorary doctorate from Catholic. After graduation, he served in the Marine Corps until 1953, and then joined his father in the automobile business at Handley Ford. In 1966 Vince went into business on his own when he founded Sheehy Ford in Marlow Heights, MD. He served as Chairman of Sheehy Auto Stores for the next 51 years providing a unique blend of leadership, intelligence, wit and guidance.
In 1954 Vince married Helen McKenna. He and Helen welcomed their first child, Vince IV in 1958 followed by Patricia, Paul, Betsy and Ann. After his children were grown, Vince and Helen divided their time between McLean and Beaver Creek, CO. where they enjoyed music, skiing, golf and close friendships within the Vail Valley.
A life-long learner and voracious reader, Vincent had special interests in the arts, travel, education and serving the needy. He generously supported and served Catholic University/Metropolitan School of Professional Studies, Gonzaga College High School, Georgetown Visitation, Washington Hospital Center, Archbishop Carroll High School, Missionaries of Charity, the Washington Opera and the Vail Valley Foundation.
Vincent is truly an “Unforgettable“ gentleman generating laughter everywhere he went. It is with a great sense of honor that we add Vincent A. Sheehy, III to our Hall of Fame.
